Privacy Notice

What personal data Uncüth uses, why we use it, and the choices available to you. Effective 2 August 2026.

Who this notice covers

This notice applies to the Uncüth public site, Member portal, Partner portal, account onboarding, community features, and messages we send in connection with them. It explains what we collect, why we use it, who may receive it, how long we keep it, and how to contact us about your information.

Sign-up disclosure

When you choose Join, we ask for or generate the following information:

  • your email address and authentication provider details needed to verify and secure the account;
  • your confirmation that you meet the portal’s age requirement and the version and time of that confirmation;
  • for Members, an optional indication of whether you are currently a student;
  • your name and the Member profile or Partner account details you add after authentication;
  • for Partners, Mentor-role information and an optional professional link;
  • your optional choice to receive early-circle updates; and
  • limited referral or campaign information, but only where your cookie choice permits it.

We use these details to create and secure your account, enforce portal eligibility, complete onboarding, tailor the experience, operate the community, send account and safety messages, respond to support requests, prevent abuse, and send optional updates only when you ask for them. The optional student-status answer does not affect eligibility to become a Member.

Other information we process

As you use Uncüth, we may process profile content, Asks, responses, messages, reports, moderation records, support correspondence, account settings, and activity needed to provide the feature you use. Our systems also receive technical information such as IP address, device and browser details, request time, security events, and diagnostic logs. Public profile or community content is visible according to the audience shown when you publish it.

Verification information

Uncüth does not currently require identity, student-status, or role evidence simply to join. Verification will initially be an optional, opt-in trust signal, similar to a verified badge on a professional or social platform. Student status is optional and does not determine eligibility to become a Member.

Some account types or actions may later require prior approval or verification before they are enabled. If that happens, the collection screen will identify the purpose, evidence requested, intended use, and relevant retention information before submission.

Verification evidence will not be displayed publicly. If verification is offered or required, access will be limited to authorised operators and infrastructure providers who need it to perform the check, secure the account, investigate abuse, or meet legal obligations. We will retain it only while reasonably needed for those purposes and applicable legal requirements; protected backups and logs may retain residual copies temporarily.

Editorial assistance for Mentors

A Mentor may ask the Uncüth team to help interview, structure, edit, or format a contribution. We then process the source material and draft needed to provide that help. Nothing is attributed to the Mentor or published under their identity without their review and approval. This editorial assistance is not part of Member sign-up or Member verification.

Why we process personal data

We process information you provide to deliver the service you request, based on your clear affirmative choices where consent is used, and where reasonably necessary to keep accounts and the community safe, prevent fraud or abuse, meet legal obligations, and establish or respond to legal claims. You may withdraw optional update or analytics consent without losing ordinary account access. Withdrawal does not undo processing already carried out lawfully.

We may also derive topic labels, similarity signals, and aggregate counts from Asks and other activity to identify recurring needs, improve routing, and operate the service. We will not publish private Member details in an aggregate. A person is identified only where they separately choose to publish the relevant content.

Cookies and analytics

Essential cookies support authentication, security, routing, and your privacy choices. First-party page-visit measurement runs only if you choose Accept analytics. We do not currently load third-party advertising trackers on public join pages. See the Cookie Policy to review or change that choice.

Service providers and international processing

We use service providers acting on our instructions to run Uncüth. Google Firebase and Google Cloud provide authentication, databases, hosting, file storage, and operational infrastructure. Postmark delivers transactional and opted-in email. These providers process limited information needed for their service and maintain their own security and compliance programmes.

These providers may process personal data outside India in the regions they use to deliver their services. Cross-border processing remains subject to applicable restrictions and our service agreements. Contact us for current information about material providers and processing locations. We do not sell personal data.

When information may be shared

We may share information with the service providers above; with authorised Uncüth operators who need it for support, safety, moderation, or administration; when you intentionally publish or send information to another person; during a genuine corporate transaction with appropriate safeguards; or where disclosure is required by law or necessary to protect people, rights, or the service. We do not share optional student status as public profile information unless a future feature asks separately and clearly before doing so.

Retention and deletion

We keep account and community information while your account is active and for as long as needed for the purposes described here. If you withdraw consent or request deletion, we will stop or erase covered processing within a reasonable period unless information remains necessary for account security, dispute handling, fraud prevention, a legal obligation, or another permitted purpose. Residual copies may remain temporarily in protected backups and security logs before scheduled deletion. Unsuccessful join records are deleted or de-identified when no longer reasonably needed.

Security and data breaches

We use access controls, authentication, encryption in transit, provider security controls, monitoring, backups, and operational restrictions intended to protect personal data. No system can promise absolute security. If a personal-data breach occurs, we will investigate, reduce risk, and provide notices required by applicable law.

Your choices and rights

You may contact us to:

  • ask what personal data we process and obtain a summary;
  • correct, complete, or update inaccurate information;
  • request erasure where retention is no longer necessary or legally required;
  • withdraw optional consent or unsubscribe from updates;
  • raise a grievance about how we process personal data; or
  • nominate another individual to exercise applicable rights in the event of death or incapacity.

Send the request from the email connected to your account where possible. We may ask for enough information to verify the request and protect the account. We aim to resolve privacy grievances promptly and within any legally applicable period. Where the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 provides a right to complain to the Data Protection Board of India, that right will be available according to the Act’s notified commencement schedule. The Act requires the grievance process to be used first once those provisions apply.

Age requirements

Member accounts are 18+ under Uncüth policy; Partner accounts currently accept Mentors from age 22. The Indian DPDP framework defines a person under 18 as a child and includes additional child-data safeguards on its phased commencement schedule. Uncüth independently applies an 18+ Member policy and does not offer child accounts or a parental-consent onboarding flow. See the same-host eligibility policy for your portal. If information was submitted by someone below the relevant age, contact us so we can review and delete it.

Changes to this notice

We may update this notice as the service or applicable requirements change. Material changes will be shown here and, where appropriate, communicated through the account or email before they take effect. This notice describes our practices and is not a certification or guarantee of legal compliance.
